Grade 10 Art

Highlight

In this reduction drawing, we used erasers to draw instead of charcoals and pencils. I layered the whole paper with charcoal, and erased the light parts in the picture. I chose this picture I took because there is a clear contrast of black and white. This was a very interesting assignment.

Reflection

This year in Studio Art, I learned many new techniques, and improved my drawing skills. Although I had to spend a lot of time on sketchbook assignments at home, I really enjoyed doing these assignments.

The reduction drawing I did at the beginning of the year was an interesting piece. Drawing with an eraser is totally different from drawing with pencil or charcoal. Erasers are harder to control, and drawing with an eraser requires patience. I also made me think more about light than shadows. I also spent a lot of time choosing a photo with clear contrast of black and white, light and shadow. From this drawing, I learned that art is all about creativity; new ways of doing art might bring surprising results.

This year I also improved my painting skills. The 'object in object' painting is my first attempt at acrylic painting, and I'm happy with the result. I learned how to build up layers, and use complementary colours to express shadows.

In studio art, I have developed many skills as an artist, and tried new methods of painting and drawing.  I have decided to do an AP Art portfolio, which requires 24 pieces, so I will keep building my portfolio next year.
